The communities of Silt and Glenwood Springs, Colorado, are mourning the tragic deaths of Reese Allen, 18, and Kyle McKinney, 17, who were killed in a wrong-way collision on Interstate 70 near Rifle.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2:36 a.m. Sunday near mile marker 93 on westbound I-70, just east of Rifle, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The collision claimed the lives of both teenagers and has left their families, friends, and loved ones grieving two young lives lost far too soon.
Remembering Reese Allen and Kyle McKinney
Reese Allen, 18, was from Silt, while Kyle McKinney, 17, was from Glenwood Springs. Their deaths have brought profound sadness to the people who knew them and to the wider communities connected to both young men.

Wrong-Way Collision on I-70
According to authorities, McKinney was driving a blue 2022 Subaru eastbound in the left lane of the westbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with Allen’s gray 2004 GMC Yukon.
Investigators said Allen was traveling westbound in the left lane while passing an orange 2026 Peterbilt semi-truck pulling a trailer. The Yukon collided with the Subaru during the wrong-way crash and subsequently struck the trailer.
The violent collision resulted in fatal injuries to both teenagers. Allen and McKinney were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report.
The 35-year-old driver of the Peterbilt was also involved in the crash but was not injured.
