Two people were killed in a fatal boating accident on Lake Havasu, Arizona, after a high-speed powerboat struck a peninsula and overturned Saturday evening.
The victims were identified as Charles “Chip” Romer, 65, and Jennifer Luzzi, 59, both of Lake Havasu City. Authorities said the pair were the only occupants of the boat.
What Happened in the Lake Havasu Crash?
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on September 12, 2026, when the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed on Lake Havasu.
According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, the vessel struck a peninsula near Cattail Cove State Park. The impact caused the boat to become airborne before it overturned and landed upside down on the shoreline.
The vessel was identified as a 36-foot Douglas Marine boat. Deputies from the sheriff’s office Division of Boating Safety responded to the scene after receiving a report of the collision.
Two Victims Found Near Overturned Boat
When emergency personnel arrived, they found the overturned vessel and two people who were unresponsive near the boat.
Deputies immediately began lifesaving efforts. Fire crews from Lake Havasu City and San Bernardino County also responded to assist with the emergency operation.
Despite the efforts of responders, Romer and Luzzi were pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident has left the Lake Havasu City community mourning the loss of two local residents.
Investigation Underway
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Initial information indicates that the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the peninsula. However, authorities have not yet established a final cause for the accident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
